Code: PCC/20/903 Direct Work with Children Affected by Child Sexual Abuse (3 DAY COURSE) (Cancelled)

Course Overview

Recent research by the NSPCC indicates that many children who have been sexually abused, or who live in families where sexual abuse has happened, do not get access to therapeutic work during or after any investigation or Court process. The reasons for this vary from not having appropriate local services, not meeting eligibility criteria, not wanting any support or confusion as to what such work might entail.
This training aims to consider the needs of children and young people who are not accessing formal therapy or counselling but who might still benefit from some input to help them better understand their experiences. It seeks to help social workers utilise their existing direct work skills and learn new ones to help enhance their communication with children about sexual abuse and provide educational input and therapeutic messages to help with their recovery. Participants will receive a copy of the trainer’s Staying Safe Programme Manual containing direct work ideas and worksheets they can use.

This course is not intended to focus on direct work with children with severe learning disabilities or severe communication difficulties. This course is for Practitioners working directly with families where child sexual abuse has occurred. The course has an emphasis on FOCUSED-POST INVESTIGATION WORK FOR SOCIAL WORKERS and it is desirable for participants to have attended the 2-day training: Communicating with and undertaking Direct Work with Children and Young People and/or Direct Work with Children for Single Assessments prior to this course; but not essential.
